Automated Estimation of Sodium, Potassium, and Calcium Using the Eppendorf Flame Photometer.

چکیده
An Eppendorf flame photometer may be used to estimate sodium, potassium, and calcium in plasma which has been automatically sampled and diluted. Readings may be automatically recorded by feeding the output from the photomultiplier into a sensitive recorder. This method estimates 60 samples an hour, using approximately 0.12 ml. plasma per estimation. The accuracy of the method is discussed.

Automated estimation of urinary calcium using the Eppendorf flame photometer.
A method is described for estimating urine calcium on a mechanized Eppendorf flame photometer with twin channels at a rate of 60 per hour. Sodium is estimated simultaneously so that a correction can be made for the small sodium error. Errors due to potassium and phosphate are minimized by adding these ions to the standards and to the diluting fluid. Results agree well with those obtained by Tri...
متن کاملSerum Calcium Using the Eel Flame Photometer
Flame photometry has many applications, and in the clinical field its use in the estimation of serum sodium and potassium is now well established. Difficulties have been encountered in the estimation of serum calcium by flame photometry, since the emission spectrum of calcium is relatively weak and is subject to interference by the presence of other ions, e.g., sodium. Although many methods hav...
متن کاملUse of silicon photovoltaic cells to provide a second channel in flame emission photometry.
Sodium and potassium may be measured simultaneously, using a modified Eppendorf flame photometer. After automatic sampling and dilution of the plasma, the potassium content is measured, using the existing Eppendorf optical and photomultiplier system. The sodium emission is measured by three silicon photovoltaic cells mounted behind an interference filter for sodium, sited on the atomiser casing...
متن کاملThe determination of calcium in biological fluids by flame photometry.
The use of flame photometers has greatly simplified and expedited the estimation of sodium and potassium. Calcium is one of the elements which it is possible to determine by flame photometry, but little advantage has been taken of this fact in biological work for a number of reasons. The concentration of calcium in extracellular fluids is usually less than that of potassium ; a given quantity o...
